SILAE

Services of Local Initiative in the Amazonia Ecuadorian

logo Silae

The SILAE project is part of the @LIS programme, which is engaged in technology transfer from the IST programme of research and development in Europe into Latin American countries.

SILAE includes the development of an internet exchange, or collaboration portal, to facillitate the participation of European organisations and agencies with others in Ecuador in projects supporting energy supply to remote communities.

In equatorian regions, the business of energy supply is principally in the hands of regional or national governments. The SILAE project will support the involvement of non-governmental organisations (NGOs) as well as energy supply companies and experts, with the central and regional administrations in the development of rural infrastructures for energy supply.

SILAE will focus on the supply of electricity to rural communities, but work alongside other initiatives dealing with water and telephone infrastructure development.
